The Life of a Gentle American Mystic Transmitting the Message of Illumination in Love, Compassion, Humility

   Robert Adams was born in Manhattan New York to a deeply devoted, loving mother, a diminutive beauty, a designer of finery from Europe. Following the unexpected early passing of his strong, athletic father from sudden illness, his grandmother and his mother maintained a strictly religious, faith based household which he described as ‘a very valuable time’ of much loving dedication.  Her handsome, seemingly dreamy son began experiencing unexplainable sudden mystical states of bliss filled radiance, in universal awareness, (*described in the East as samadhi) followed by deep perceptions of others spiritual stature, with an ability to know, assist and heal their pain. He was often sent home from school after these unexpected, recorded timeless periods of ‘jumping into God.” At one point, his teachers approached him for personal guidance, while still a young student.

   The gentle Sage was known throughout life for being extremely tender hearted and kindly to all, even as a fun loving youth.  Within his home, all meals followed ancient guidelines for sanctity, devotion, purity and consciousness of God. This was emphasized in all other activities as well, which regularly followed ceremonial rites, readings and prayers. Various male relatives were highly regarded religious leaders in the community, and his ‘role models’ were that of strong, virtuous male adherents to their traditions. Being raised by a devoted single mother and grandmother established a deep regard and kindliness, a much regarded ‘old world’ protective gentility for mothers, family life, and a quietly clean- cut conservatism ‘away from the vile things of this world’ in his personal life. Although much of his later Teaching occurred in a Western cultural era of emerging ‘counter culture’ and ‘alternative’ lifestyles amid melded spiritual potpourris, gentle Robert Adams maintained this staid ‘householder’ mainstream traditional humanitarian- aid based, conservatism, per the ancient Vedic life precepts, never participating in or acquiring cults, communities or full time teaching, for the remainder of his life.

As a young adult, Robert received direct personal confirmation with the premier saints of the era, Paramahansa Yogananda and Ramana Maharshi ‘to confirm my experiences.’ This period with them resulted in his shared experiences of his reference to them, as well as other traditional, revered teachers as “Spiritual Giants”. HIs origin in mystical Christianity reflects his rare personal experience in the power of compassion and selflessness 'superceding all human problems and suffering' as a practical reality, demonstrated in his own joy in later illness. Robert Adams met his beloved wife of 47 years in college as she arrived from overseas educating the public for compassionately founded vegetarianism as a certified nutritionist with her own cookbooks, spirituality, and recorded shows. Robert: “Your heart will tell you. If you are a sincere devotee, you do not have to worry about anything like that. Something within you will tell you what to do. Where to go. But, if you are a False Devotee, you will go to a false Sage. Like attracts like. Therefore, you honestly have to take a good look at yourself, according to what you are, who you are, spiritually in consciousness. So. If you are sincere, you will attract the right Sage. It all depends on what we are. What you are speaks so loud I can’t hear a word you are saying.

Question: Are there other teachers of Robert Adams other than his Institute?

A: No, in accordance with Roberts wishes. Robert Adams received literally hundreds of requests to affiliate their names with his and teach his experience. He always, emphatically, shook his head. “No.” “Your Heart is not pure.” “No. This is the only Teaching.” “No, No affiliation.” The purity of preservation in lineage is paramount ‘to reap the fruit of effort’.

Most new seekers not in the Inner Circle are unfamiliar with the long and tender training and planning in which Robert showed us the foundation of the Institute, the materials, and the purity to be preserved unchanged by those in his wisdom he selected to assist his loved ones. The Teacher knows his Teaching. Robert Adams own selected Teachers assisting his lineage in his wisdom share three commonalities: 1. Have resided and taught in a well reputed monastery, hermitage or temple as renunciates for several years following the ancient 8-10 hrs. of meditation/prayer/practices and discipline. 2. Have spent their entire life or the majority of their life in daily or weekly personal studentship with Robert Adams. 3. Appear in The Golden Tribute with Robert Adams personally selecting them to lead his Institute and disseminate his Teaching in great love and life long dedication on a volunteer basis of gratitude to the selfless teacher of loving heart.

Question: There are three people who started using Robert Adams name publicly following his Teaching and none were with him in his life that I saw…no one knew them, they were not in the Inner Circle activities yet they publicly seek audiences utilizing his name as a public affiliation validation for their talks, very different than Robert was. Since he refused their requests they appeared after he left physical from…So my friends think they are real students and teachers…how can this be? I never saw them in Sedona during his last 2 years with the public appearances. I know none were audience guests more than three years, one never. You appear gracious in not devoting time to denoting them, yet it appears necessary….

A: Factually, as documented, immediately following leaving his form, three mentioned were either removed from transcribing by Robert Adams per his Los Angeles audience observance, or refused permissions and self pronounced an inaccurate affiliation touring the world in public relations posting they were The Robert Adams Lineage from ‘the original satsanga.” This is a fabrication. None were life long, personally acknowledged or authorized by the gentle Sage who made only one request of honoring his wishes, nor were Inner Circle students. None were acknowledged by Robert to use his name or instructed to continue his teaching.  With grace and understanding, the accurate Truth guides us into clear living. Enabling Wise Discernment The Pure Truth-False Self Pronounced Interpreters Refused by Robert Adams

Q: There was a book called “Teachers of the One” that appeared planned to release immediately on his suddenly leaving outer form that focused on an individual (name withheld in courtesy) being interviewed as a ‘Robert Adams lineage’, student, representative and teacher describing their experiences in public advertisements. The events and ‘teaching’ were not of Robert Adams as I attended the last eleven years. I was confused. This person was never in any of his groups, I was in and no one I knew in his groups ever knew or saw them. How could such a thing occur ?

A: Hi Serita. How are you? Thank you for your question. Watkins Publishers who published that book has cordially sent The Robert Adams Institute a most gracious and apologetic letter following their own concerned personal interview with the individual you mentioned, and their own investigation, stating that they have decided to retract the chapter when it was confirmed by the interviewee that they were indeed never a student of Robert Adams at any time, nor acknowledged by Robert Adams. In innocent trust of spiritual integrity the author and publishing company based their book on this assumption of accuracy. Their graciousness in apologetic surprise and retraction followed in full sincerity.

Q: When I attended Los Angeles talks a man there arrived long after it started for years and left a couple of years later. He asked to volunteer as we all did to transcribe the transcripts. But after three or four transcripts, we saw that Robert Adams in surprise to us all, told him to stop transcribing and actually banished him from volunteering anymore taking them and giving them to someone else! Our group confirmed that he tried to sell the transcripts he was transcribing and told Robert he could have ‘half the funds’ he got. We were a peaceful group and were quite taken aback. Robert smiled and told him to leave all volunteering immediately. He left the teaching soon after, telling us he was not into that anymore, and did not attend Sedona satsangs either later or attend the special public services held for students in the huge services to pay respects when he left the body. Now I saw that he has a website using poor Roberts name where he sold the transcripts again and now said he owned them. He claims that he was a main student and is trying to teach a teaching that is the opposite of Roberts’ words I heard. We all went to lunch with Robert just weekly and I remember Robert had little to nothing to do with him other than to attempt to help him with problems through the talks. Did he not get removed from transcribing by Robert Adams as we saw? How can he tell people he is teaching someone else’s works?

Q: My friend received inaccurate and bizarre interpretations using my teachers name, until I showed her the eighty transcript lessons I received contradicting the post sixties 'nothing is real' rather drop out mutation in a generation projecting this unto this sage. I never recall Robert even discussing these things, and he mentioned the eternal nature vs the temporary physical only in expansion- rather than a past eras limited perception. Help me on this one, for this imagery is so unrelated to my years in his talks, he never spoke or emphasized this. His royalty and kindliness kept showint a larger than life way to live rather than a denial of reality. He did not try to 'reduce' things in my humble experience, but enlarge, elaborated and expanded in a loving way.

Indeed, Robert Adams over five hundred discourses emphasize "What YOU Are, Unimaginable Beauty, Omnscience. Do not focus on what you are not." Asmall percentage of early nineties talks mention the observance that this physical realm is not our eternal home or Reality, rather the Unchaning Infinite Omniscient Love defines Reality. This introductory acknowledgement served as a backdrop of simple observance.

"Do not become weird walking around saying nothing is real. This is not a denial to escape in. It is awakening."

Interestingly, Robert at no point found this aspect to be a major component of his rich offerings that emerge in even more profound depth with each beautiful pondering. In sociological observance, It is true that in this brief cultural time in Souther California, a few audience guests originating from the post sixties generation of various groups and experiments, ideologies founded on dropping out, nomadic living, etc. found an inner identification with this phrasing, and projected this limited and minscule aspect of his words out of context, as well as Robert himself, who advised against such involvments, thereby eliminating the entire Teaching foundation in critical and pivotal Origin. Robert himself rarely mentioned these references in his Inner Circle groups nor his original groups, as advanced students already approached the Teaching from this simple awareness All cutlural environments have a temporal effect on the reception of the Message, as it has been throughout time. For this reason, most teachers taught in timeless parables of Truth. This is a very small topic within of his Teaching of Truth enabling one to simply find ones natural state of peace, true security in thier awareness of being eternal.

A:“Let us say you give a homeless person a good meal. You put him or her up for a couple of days. You give them fifty dollars in their pocket, and they go their way. A few days later, the person is right back where they were before. Yet, you have done what you were supposed to do. This is why when you help someone, you should not think about it.
